Found in a tree-covered valley south of Renfrew, this community is home to several well-known artists and cafés. Historic log cabins and colourful clapboard homes line the few streets of this walkable town. Head to the Bittersweet Gallery at Fog Run Studio or Artists’ Cove Gallery to find work by local artists. For wood-fired pizza, fresh baking, specialty coffee, and a Friday evening or Saturday morning market, go to the Neat Coffee Shop.
The Blackbird Café is known throughout Eastern Ontario for its laid-back gourmet experience. With unfinished wood floors and antique tins on the shelves, historic touches abound in this café, found in a building that combines a charming brick house with an attached log cabin. The small but excellent menu includes maple chipotle salmon, blue cheese crusted rib eye, and their signature blackbird chicken wrapped in prosciutto and stuffed with cambozola cheese, roasted red pepper, and spinach.
