Ontario has dozens of waterfalls in pristine wilderness. However, only a handful of restaurants offer waterfall views. Here are a few of our favourites:
A relatively new addition to the charming town of Elora, the totally refurbished Elora Mill offers a first-class hotel and spa as well as a two-storey restaurant with impeccable views of the falls and gorge. Dine on gourmet cuisine while watching brave kayakers approach the falls and fall gazers peer down from the street level above.
A lovely pair of waterfalls drop six metres over the escarpment right beside this highly regarded restaurant. Although a lovely glass walkway allows visitors a great view of the falls, diners can enjoy multi-course meals prepared to the highest standard while taking this romantic sight.
Millcroft Inn and Spa
Diners at the five-star inn can enjoy looking out at the bucolic mill pond as well as the impressive Shaw’s Creek Waterfall. The restaurant is the perfect spot for a special occasion and makes use of the best the Caledon area has to offer in terms of fresh produce and farm fresh offerings.
Barley Mow, Almonte
Dine in the impeccably restored original mill building while enjoying patio views over the waterfalls and Mississippi River. The food is casual, but well-made, with plenty of healthy options.
A highlight of Bracebridge is the roaring waterfall that streams through the heart of this quaint Muskoka town. The top dining establishment to get a different view of the falls is the Riverwalk restaurant. The patio offers a great place to view the rush of the water, while you dine on pleasantly presented, often locally sourced plates.
The Falls Inn and Spa, Walters Falls
Found between Collingwood and Owen Sound, this country hotel is popular for weddings and events. Couples celebrating anniversaries and special moments also enjoy the romantic atmosphere of this rural property and its restaurant with a casual lunch menu served on the patio by the falls.
Table Rock Restaurant, Niagara Falls
Nearly every restaurant in Niagara claims to have great views of the Falls, but there is a shortage of true fine dining options. While the Keg at Embassy Suites or Massimo at the Sheraton are favourites for some, the Table Rock Restaurant is a classic with awe-inspiring views from floor to ceiling windows and decent Italian-inspired menu options. It’s the closest you can get to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, while enjoying a glass of Niagara region wine.
The Locker at Fenelon Falls
For cottage goers in the Kawarthas, Fenelon Falls is a must-visit location for its falls set conveniently in the centre of town. No need to change out of your shorts and flip flops before heading to The Locker restaurant. Picnic tables on the outdoor terrace
