Hitch Up the Buggy and Head to Wallenstein General Store
Due west of West Montrose is the hamlet of Wallenstein. Completely unknown to tourists (and even many locals in nearby Kitchener-Waterloo), Wallenstein is a farm community with a high percentage of Mennonites. Wallenstein General Store is an authentic Old Order Mennonite shop, selling summer sausage, inexpensive food products (Mennonites are known for their thrift), dark-coloured felt hats for men, bonnets for women, and inexpensive, traditional fabrics for home sewers. There are usually just as many buggies as cars parked out front.
