This colourful little village hugs the steep sides of a rocky inlet and has a harbor abustle with yachters and cruisers seeking shelter and supplies. Tobermory is still an active commercial fishery, and there are usually a couple of “turtleback” fishing tugs at the wharf where you can purchase fresh and smoked whitefish.
Circle Arts is one of the best retail art galleries in Ontario with a variety of affordable artwork, particularly glicee paintings. Also in Little Tub Harbour, stop by the Golden Gallery which is a hilltop building overlooking the harbor. Here you will find local artwork, including jewelry and woodwork. On Highway 6 you’ll find Wet Rock Studio which specializes in art prints of Tobermory – a great souvenir of your trip.
In downtown Tobermory, the Chart Shop has been a must-visit store since 1969. Find one of the largest collections of nature, local history, and nautical books and charts around. The shop itself is filled with interesting nautical antiques and models to enjoy as you browse.
