In Shakespeare, turn north up Perth Road 107 to Line 43 and head west and you’ll immediately find Organic Oasis, an organic family farm. The farm opened for business with Holstein milk in 1971. However, as research indicated the potential side effects to the environment and human health from chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the family decided to change their 200-acre farm into a certified organic operation in 1993.
Stop by the Farm Store, open from 9 am on Saturday or 10 am Tuesday through Friday, to pick up organic beans, peas, kale, mixed greens, bok choy, broccoli, asparagus, radishes, spicy brassicas, corn, stawberries, raspberries, heirloom vegetables, beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and blue eggs (from Araucana heritage chickens). Contact the farm in advance to ask about upcoming farm tours, when visitors take a tractor-pulled hay ride through the property to see the cows, chickens, and vegetables in the field.
