Drive west along Ontario and King streets to the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. The village of Portsmouth is ancient by Ontario standards, and some of the houses have been converted to bed-and-breakfasts, capitalizing on the nautical theme. The Olympic harbor was constructed to host the sailing events of the 1976 Olympics. The facilities are excellent and the challenging winds off Lake Ontario make Kingston the best fresh-water sailing centre in the world. This is the place to charter a yacht – or buy one – and the piers provide for a relaxing stroll.
