About Days Out Ontario

What this site is and why we built it

Days Out Ontario is a travel site built around a simple idea: the best outings in this province don't require a flight, a resort booking, or a week off work. They start with a tank of gas, a rough plan, and a willingness to follow a county road to wherever it leads.

We focus on day trips, weekend getaways, and the kind of short adventures that fit into a normal life. That means small towns with good downtowns, waterfront walks, scenic backroads, provincial parks, and the local restaurants and shops that make each place worth visiting. We write about places we've actually been to, and we return to them regularly to keep our recommendations current.

The site covers a wide stretch of Ontario, with particular depth in Georgian Bay, Grey-Bruce, Simcoe County, the Ottawa Valley, Muskoka-Almaguin, Eastern Ontario, and Southwestern Ontario. These are regions that reward exploration and that most Ontario residents can reach in a few hours of driving. Each region has its own character, its own seasonal rhythms, and its own collection of towns and landscapes that we think deserve more attention than they typically get.

Our content is organized around the ways people actually plan outings. If you're looking for a waterfront town to visit, we have a guide for that. If you want a scenic drive with good stops along the way, we cover those too. We write about specific places in enough detail to be genuinely useful, with practical information about what to expect, where to park, and what's worth your time.

We write in an editorial style because we think travel recommendations should come with honest opinions. If a town's waterfront is underwhelming or a trail is poorly marked, we say so. If a place is exceptional, we explain exactly why. The goal is to help you spend your limited free time on outings that actually deliver.

Ontario is enormous, varied, and full of places that most residents have never visited. We think that's an opportunity. This site exists to help you find your next favourite day out.
